Hi Samir,

Looking at the data sheet of this router, it should be able to support a VIC-2FXS card (1st Gen):

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps221/products_data_sheet09186a0080092102.html

As per VIC-2FXS data sheet, the current IOS and feature set should support the card as well:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk652/tk653/technologies_tech_note09186a0080094fac.shtml#support

On the Cisco 1700 voice platforms, one or more packet voice and data modules (PVDMs) are needed to support Voice interface card (VICs,) or voice ports may be missing in the active configuration. The PVDMs hold digital signal processors (DSPs) that make the VICs fully functional, and are installed on the motherboard of the Cisco 1700 series.

For more information, refer to:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps221/products_tech_note09186a00800c3399.shtml

HTH.

Harmit.

thanks Harmit.

I ran sh diag and this is what I got.

does this mean that I need to purchase PVDM?

Hi Samir,

Yes, looks like the PVDM slot is empty:

Packet Voice DSP Module Slot 0:

        Not populated

I also noticed that you dont have an FXS card, instead, you have an FXO??

WIC Slot 1:

        Dual FXO Voice Interface Card

Please crosscheck the data sheets to ensure the card you have is supported and also look at getting PVDM module to get the router to detect the card.

Sorry about the little confusion, but I also have fxs card and that did not work ether.

now I am not sure if it is worth spending the money on the mod. I think I should buy another fxo/fxs/nm2v cards and install in my other 2600.

thanks for your replies and I realy do appreciate your quick replies.

Hi Samir,

No worries mate, I am glad I could be of help! :-)

Depends on what you want to use the router for. It is quite outdated including the IOS. To get the most out of the features available, I would say look at an ISR atleast. If you dont require too many features, then 2600 will also do.

Kindly mark this thread as answered, much appreciated.

Harmit.
