Hi!

We have faced an issue with the FXS port on our 2811 gateway with IOS ver Version 12.4(24)T2.

There is an analog phone connected to the port with the default settings stated below.

If I pickup the phone I cannot hear the dial tone, there is only noise.

Foreign Exchange Station 0/2/0 Slot is 0, Sub-unit is 2, Port is 0

The port has all necessary configuration:

voice-port 0/2/0
station-id name Test
station-id number 63278
caller-id enable

dial-peer voice 63278 pots
destination-pattern 63278

There is a SIP trunk towards this gateway configured on CUCM and the appropriate Route Pattern used for the phone extension.

When we call to that extension we can hear the dialing and waiting for the answer, but the phone on the test site is not ringing.

At the same time I can see that it is ringing according to the output:

What have been done?

I tried shut no shut, tried the second Voice Port - the same issue.

Tried another Phone - the same.

Tried to test with the verified cable - the same.

Could it be the faulty VIC2-2FXS card?

I would greatly appreciate it if you kindly provide some suggestions.

Regards, Denis.

Hi Denis

In the first instance you need to prove your wiring.

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/voice/analog-signaling-e-m-did-fxs-fxo/7938-2fxs-vic.html

The FXS port on the router needs only a 2 wire connection to the phone.

Router FXS RJ11 - PIN 3 ----------- PHONE RING
Router FXS RJ11 - PIN 4 ----------- PHONE TIP

Just connect these wires only and re-test

Hi Alex,

thanks for reply. The thing is that the cable was verified. We have another location with the same set up and used that cable & phone to test the connection there. That is why I have no doubt about it.

Regards, Denis

I was able to perform a test with the following commands:

test voice port 0/2/0 detector ring-trip on

test voice port 0/2/0 loopback network

I called to the problem destination phone and got the call answered by the gateway, then I looped the call so i could hear myself. So at least now I know that the DSP is working properly.

Additionally I made one more test, I picked up the phone and could see in the debug that the gateway is actually generating the Dial Tone:

2 voip up up .T 2 syst ipv4:10.2.2.6

The problem has been solved by reinstalling the vic2-2fxs card to another available slot.
