2851 Router CME: analog trunking to PSTN?

Probably a simple question, but new to this. Router currently has NM-CUE & VWIC 1MFT-T1 modules (previous owner used T1 for trunking). Current owner can only use analog trunks (4 needed) due to location.

Seems that an NM-HDA would be needed with an EM-HDA-4FXO module, but not 100% sure. I've also seen the VIC2-4FXO module for which the description includes "FXO port is used to connect to PBX or key system, or to provide off-premise connections to PSTN or PTT", so not quite sure what all is needed to do this.

Studying for CCNA right now with intention to go down voice path. I've done two CUCM classes, but this is still a ways off and would like to get this up and working for a small private school. I'd also need to reconfigure CME to use the analog trunks instead. Any advice/direction greatly appreciated!

Douglas,

A VIC2-4FXO will suit your needs.

This will support 4 x Analogue PSTN lines from your
service provider.

Be sure to set your config to match lines
e.g. match loop start or ground start.

You can remove the VWIC 1MFT-T1 and replace it with the VIC2-FXO.
Power off the router before reoving or inserting the cards.

Hope this helps

Alex.

In addition to Alex's great response, as he recommended either remove the T1 card or if you chose to leave it inside make sure to remove the controller pri-timeslots command to release the PVMDs (DSPs) which will be needed for the FXO card, since you will no longer use the T1 no reason to waste valuable PVDMs.
