7916 expansion module resetting

Hello Everyone,

last week we purchased a 7965G IP phone with two expansion modules for our reception.

The phone system is new

Cisco Unified CM - System version: 11.0.1.20000-2

I configured the phone using SCCP, once the configuration was finalised I connected the phone - assembled with 2 x 7916 expansion modules -
the phone upgraded it's firmware.
FW phone: SCCP45.9-4-2SR1-1S
FW 7916 modules: B016-1-0-4-2
That from what I read in docs seems to be the right FW combination.
I then created a SCCP phone button template and all 48 expansion module buttons are set to 'Speed Dial BLF'. This phone button template is associated with the 7965G phone.
Now what happens is that when the status of one of the configured lines changes to busy and the amber light lights up on an expansion module. Both modules reload - returning to the Cisco splash screen then turn blue and load the configured extensions.
Does anyone experience a similar issue, could it be simply power supply related. The two expansion modules are connected to an external power supply.
Thanks heaps in advance for any clues to solve this mystery
Carsten

Hello Manish,

thanks for your quick reply, the two 7916 expansion modules are powered by an external power supply being connected to the unit closest to the phone.

My guess is that it just could be the power supply, as the symptom is related to one or more LEDs flashing up when a line is picked up.

Thanks Carsten

That looks to be the case here since firmware is fine.

Manish

Hello,

we are facing somehow same behavior but after the upgrade of the system from 10.5 to 11.0.

The problem is that the Cisco phones 7965 with 2 7916 modules but without extension mobility are working OK. After login the modules are restarting in a loop.

The problem is on the extension mobility side. The "device profile" for the 7965 phones does not contain any more the "expansion module information" settings.

The settings are still available on the phone but not on the profile.

In the attach is the device profile for 7965 from version 10.5 and from 11.0.

What do you think that can be done?

Thank you.

Did you find a solution to this problem? I am having a similar issue. I just replaced a 7965 due to a screen issue and the expansion module randomly resets now. I didn't get any reports of this issue with the old 7965. Did you replace the power supply and that fixed the issue?

Thanks,
