There is a problem with the off-hook switch on 7940/7960 phones. After some time the switch does not work. When you pick up the handset nothing happens.
What is the best way to fix this?
1: Clean the switch circuit board with alcohol?
2: Replace the switch circuit board?
3: Replace the rubber part of the switch?
Is it possible to replace the switch with another kind of switch?

Hi,
The best would be to clean the phone with Propyl-Alcohol (a normally used cleaner) and second would be to buy new phone (if you are using them for labs, then I shall highly recommend buy from eBay, most of the vendors @ eBay give great value for the money)

Hi Torleif,
I unfortunately have a lot of experience with this, since a lot of my phones are old and I teach my administrators how to fix them.
The off-hook switch is an easy fix, follow these steps:
1. Remove the 4 rear screws (2 are located under the rubber stands).
2. Open up the phone (It is pressure clamped so you need to apply a bit of force.
3. Locate the metal "spring" or "wire" that controls the switch. It has most likely come out of his socket. Place it back in, test the off-hook switch movement before reassembling.
Let me know how that works.
Thanks,
FG
