840 Wireless Phone Manual Firmware Upgrade

Hi Folks,

We have just taken delivery of two Cisco 840 Wireless handsets and we're trying to get them regitered to our 12.5.1 CUCM.  The Phone is running firmware version 1.4 and although it connects to the wireless network, it will not register to the CUCM.  There are suggestions from Internet posts, that we need firmware version 1.5 for it to work.

The catch 22 is, we have the latest firmware on the CUCM via an updated COP file but we can't update the phone because it can't connect.  If it needs 1.5 to connect, then I need to somehow manually update it.

We tried it making the firmaware available via a web serever via HTTPS to run the update process but no joy.  We know the file is in the file location, as we can browse it from a laptop but when we browse to the location via the update process on the wireless phone, it says "file not found".

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Chazz.

The release notes show that 1.4 supported CUCM as well - so the phone should understand how to check TFTP (technically HTTPS now) for XML config files and firmware, unless there is a bug. Did you install the Device Enabler QED COP file mentioned in the admin guide or just the latest firmware COP? The former also requires a full cluster reboot.

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for the reply.  It seems the phone does a PING prior to going through the registration process, which was blocked.  Letting the ping through allowed the phone to register to the Call Manager.
