8841 Phone Weird dial tone

I have a 8841 phone when I lift the headset off hook I get an unusual dial tone. If I go off hook using the speaker button I get the normal dial tone. Also when receiving or making a call using the headset I get static. My first instinct was to replace both headset cable and headset. I still get the same behavior. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

It should be the same. It sounds like the device might be defective - the warranty period on these is pretty short, I would recommend calling for an RMA before it expires if it hasn't already.
