i have been ask to connect one more E1 to my VWIC on my voice gateway , i think this extra E1 is basically a redundant line incase the first one fails correct?

in term of configuration changes i think i woud need to add another dial peer to direct outgoing calls from my company for example right now i have

dial-peer voice x pots
destination-pattern .T
progress_ind setup enable 3
no digit-strip
direct-inward-dial
port 0/0/0:15

controller E1 0/0/0
pri-group timeslots 1-31

so i would only add this "port 0/0/1:15" as in the new serial port and

controller E1 0/0/1
pri-group timeslots 1-31

dial-peer voice x pots
destination-pattern .T
progress_ind setup enable 3
no digit-strip
direct-inward-dial
port 0/0/1:15

is there other configuration i need to add?

Hi,

It depends on your setup that whether it is utilized as a failover or for handling more number of calls.

As far as configuration goes,  ensure your line coding, framing, network-clock are set as they should be.

For the dial-peer config, add command "preference" to the E1 ports so that only primary E1 port gets selected most of the time and it only fail over to the secondary in case of high volume and failure of primary.
