Adding phone models to CUCME

Chris Campbell

Hello,

I am trying to learn CUCME.  I have a 2951 router and 7821 phones.

When I go into telephony-service and do a load, I don't see the 7821 in the list.  I have the 7821 software files that I downloaded from Cisco.  I can't figure out what needs to be updated or changed so I get the option to specify a 7821.  Can someone help?

78XX and 88XX phones are SIP only and cannot be added under telephony-service which is SCCP only.  You need to add SIP phones under "voice register global" and add the devices as "voice register pool ".  Check out CME Admin guide for detailed directions. In addition CME allows you to add phone models not supported by your CME version without upgrading the IOS by utilizing "Fast-track" feature, but since support of 78XX models was added in version 11.7 you should not need it.

The only way to add support for new phone models is to upgrade your CME version to one that natively supports it, or try to use fast track if applicable to your phone model.

This is correct.  I was looking at an old configuration example and trying to work through that.  I knew I was using a SIP phone, but didn't realize that SIP phones use a different configuration command.  Thanks for the response.
