Allocating Media Resourcs

Hello All,

When assigning Media Resources to MRGs/MRGLs, should resources be allocated from HW devices not involved in the call?

For example, if there are 3 routers. The 1st is a SIP CUBE in which all the calls come through, and the other 2 are used strictly for faxing. So for a normal SIP call, the call never passes through the 2 Routers that are used for faxing. So should Media Resources try to be allocated from these devices if the call never goes through those specific routers?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi

- Media Resource Manager (MRM) will search in the first MRG assigned to MRGL allocated to the phone/media device. If located, return the resource ID.

- If the requested resource is not found, MRM will search in the next MRG in the MRGL. Return the resource ID if a match is found.

- Within MRG if multiple resources of the same type are available selection will be round robin based.

Theoretically, it doesnt really ,matter, so for instance if you have CUBES 1,2 and 3 with enough DSP resources to do MTP and XCODE, you can have all those media resources registered on CUCM and use them based on whatever you put in your MRGL;s. The reality is, is that you want the media resources required, to be close to where the call is terminated, which is what you already suggested. this way you will not need to do XCODING across the WAN for instance. Plus also you keep it more controllable,
