Any advantage to minimizing number of partitions used in an implementation?

During a discussion of how to define a dialing plan, the design group was contemplating ideas of how to categorize or group numbers used in like functions (e.g. ACD DNs, service DNs, CTI route point DNs, etc.). I suggested simply assigning like numbers to the same partition. This  was discouraged because (to paraphrase) "it's best to minimize the use of partitions because too many will have an adverse affect on system performance and  would complicate the development of a class of restrictions". Does anyone know of documentation supporting this idea of minimizing the use of partitions? Thanks!

I would say, do what's necessary to meet the design requirements, nothing more, nothing less.  If that means a flat dialplan, or a modular to the point of extreme complexity, then that's what you should do.
