Hi All,

We would like to setup a syslog server for the Cisco gateway devices,  for collecting the logs.

Have a query on this , whether we can use FreeFTPD software as a syslog server?

Or there only the recommended software to setup the same.

Since i have not performed this previously would like to know if we can continue with the existing setup((FreeFTDP software)) to collect the logs.

Appreciate your response on this.

Thanks In Advance for your help.

If you have any Old Server with 16/32GB - with 1TB HDD ( depends on how big your network and devices looking to collect logs) you can install any Linux and install syslog-ng as syslog server to collect all the logs from your cisco devices.

Hi Balaji,

Thanks for your response . Appreciate the same.

Here I am using windows machine as syslog server,

But wanted to know if I can use the Freeftdp /tftp software for collecting the logs /is it supported , or we should use only specific syslog software's??

(like syslog-ng as you said in your case for log collection ).

Thanks

Not sure about the software you have mentioned got  syslog feature.

If you looking to send logs to log server, you need syslog server.

here is one of the free from solarwinds.
