We recently purchased a few 187s, since the tried and true 186 and the equally awesome 188s are no longer available. (I can't be the only one who loved the backplane on the 188s, why did they stop making them like these?)
I can make and place calls through the 187s but when it comes to sending and receiving faxes, both within my voip network or out of the PRIs, I get nothing. I configured the devices for fax pass-through thinking the t38 relay might have been the problem but that didn't do a thing.
I am running UCM 8.6.2.2 with MGCP gateways going through 2 X6600 CMMs in my 6509. Here is the MGCP configuration on each CMM.
mgcp
mgcp call-agent 172.16.3.XXX 2427 service-type mgcp version 0.1
mgcp dtmf-relay voip codec all mode out-of-band
mgcp rtp unreachable timeout 1000 action notify
mgcp modem passthrough voip mode nse
mgcp package-capability rtp-package
no mgcp package-capability res-package
mgcp package-capability sst-package
mgcp package-capability pre-package
no mgcp timer receive-rtcp
mgcp sdp simple
mgcp rtp payload-type g726r16 static
!
mgcp profile default

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Can't tell re MGCP, but in my case (Xerox 7228 fax) I had to enable t38 on outgoing and disable on incoming and fix fax rate to 9600. Also there was an issue with Impedance - as it seems Cisco has default of USA, and some EU phones/faxes might need a different setting. In my case 270ohms + 750ohms || 150nF works better.
Here is link to Xerox doc that talk about fax over IP - see if that gives any ideas for you. http://www.office.xerox.com/support/dctips/dc08cc0439.pdf
here is weird conf on gw that works for me:

Also check the firmware on the ATA 187, go for the latest.
This model has driven me nuts! So many problems.
Missing the 186
