Auth Failed

Hi All,

Can anyone explain in easy terms how i get around this problem.

We have CUCM 7.1.5 and quite a few old 7940 phones. Recently i have had several come back in with an AUTH failed message on boot.

The phone load we have set in CUCM for 7940 is P00308010200   however the phones with the problem still seem to have p00305000600.

As i understand it Cisco added some sort of image signing and i assume this is related to my problem.

Any idea how to get these phones up and running again?

Andy

Hi Andy,

I think you are hitting this issue;

Installation Notes

Before using the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7960G or 7940G with Cisco Unified Communications Manager release 7.1 or earlier, you must install the latest firmware on all Cisco Unified Communications Manager servers in the cluster.

Note You cannot upgrade to firmware release 8.1(2) directly from firmware release 8.0(10) or an earlier release. You have to upgrade to firmware release 8.1(1) first, then upgrade from release 8.1(1) to release 8.1(2).

Cheers!

Thanks Rob that got me in ht eright direction. I discovered hte phones that had the problem had be in a cupboard since the 4.1 days. So they missed the P00308010100 ugrade. This meant i could not go to P00308010200.

So i just changed the default load for th e7940 phones to P00308010100 and then rebooted the phone (keeping my fingers crossed no other phones were rebooted at the same time). Once the phone had upgraded i changed it back to P00308010200 It then upgraded to the correct version :-)
