Hi,

Is this a CME or CUCM deployment? Can you explain more about the setup?

In both cases you can use FAC access code to authenticate with a PIN before accessing the called number. You can use technique to authenticate with PIN before turning paging off.

we have CUCM. what is the difference between FAC and Client matter code? why would i use one over the other?

if it is a fxs port configured on a VG224 gateway versus a route pattern, how do you enforce either?

FAC and CMC are discussed in the Features and Services guide from CUCM in all detail. They can only be used for calls that go through a RP, if the integration you have with the paging system is not via a RP, neither of them will work and we do not offer any alternative.

Hi,

As Jaime mentioned, you can refer to the guide for more details about CMC and FAC.

How are you integrating VG224 to CUCM? Are you using SCCP or H323? In case you are using H323, you should have a route pattern pointing to VG224 and then you can enable either feature.

Another method, if you have a gateway, is to send the call to the gateway using route-pattern to enable authentication, then loopback the call to CUCM to go to VG224. This is the indirect way and needs multiple CSS/PTs to do so.

so FAC is working between 2 clusters via RP. what is an alternate within a cluster to prevent users accidently dialing the paging DN?

There isn't any, in CUCM all you get are CSS and partitions, either they can, or they cannot dial the DN.

Hi,

You can configure an access code with paging extension and perform manipulation to strip the access code.

Example: Assuming that paging DN is 1111 you can configure the translation pattern as 3331111 and strip 333.

Just adding to what Jeremy has posted (+5), FAC and CMC only works, if the paging system is via Route Pattern (most are configured that way).

In your case, I believe CMC would be fine.

Here is the different between CMC and FAC:

FAC = Forced Authorization Code aka any time someone dials the Route Pattern, the system will force the user to enter a code (pre-assigned) and once that code has been entered the system will allow the call to proceed.

CMC= Is similar, however this is more for accounting / billing purposes.

Though both of them write the information to the CDR, in case of FAC, you have to specify that the user who enters the FAC meets or exceeds the required authorization e.g. in a student dorm, no one is allowed to place a call except for 911, for rest of the calls, they will have to enter FAC, and students and faculty members have different Authorization Levels (students can only Local Calls, Faculties can dial National and International)

If CMC were deployed here, you could not have been able to deploy different levels of access (Authorization) for the calls, once you enter a valid CMC (whether  faculty to student) the call is routed.

Please find here with detailed information about CMC and FAC

Setup a CTI RP that goes straight to Unity Connection. The extension used for the CTI RP will be your "paging number".

Setup the call hanlder with a message "Please enter the paging access code."

Setup a caller Input with the call action "Transfer to Alternate Contact Number".  Provide this caller input as the "paging access code" to your end user.  They don't need to know it's simply a mailbox they're interfacing with.

For the extension field in "Transfer to Alternate Contact Number" enter a very unique number that your callers won't dial.  Typically you wouldn't use a very unique number for paging but in this case it's ok as you'll be providing the CTI RP as the paging number.

Make the paging extension in CUCM the same as the extension that was setup in the "Transfer to Alternate Contact Number" box in Unity Connection.

It's a workaround but from your users perspective it'll be easy. Call an extension and enter a "1" digit access code.

HTH.
