Busy Verify

Hello.

On old Avaya/Nortel systems, there is a feature allowing a caller to know if a user is already on call or not.

Sometimes when the called party is already on a call, the caller's screen shows "User busy" or something like that.

Else, with a special manoeuvre, the user can see of the remote end is busy, off-hook or handset has been misplaced.

The feature that comes closest to this  is BLF/DSS.

But then, all users would have to be added on a expansion module and be explicitly monitored.

We wanted to achieved something like the operation described by Avaya above.

Note: I have read somewhere that privacy issues can arise here. But in our case, this has been already discussed and is a requirement, not a political issue.

2nd note, we could have considered attendant console as an option, yet in that case we'd need a PC for each user and this is not as far as where we'd want to take things to.

I think what Sada is looking for it's a way to let know to the user if a called number is busy. If that is the case neither BLF Directory or BLF List will work for this pourpose because the user will need to check if the called number is available before attempt to make the call...

Hi Sada,

As you have already said, BLF and Directory List are the only native presence that CUCM have. If you have CUC (Cisco Unity Connection) you can forward tthe busy call to a prompt something like " The user is buys, please call later..."

For me this could be the feature more likely to Avaya busy feature.

Is there any alternative via the Cisco Developer platform. ?

Something like a servcice URL that asks for a login/password, then Extension to display a status about the Phone state?

Hi Sadaseeven

Sorry if I'm missing something here, but surely what you're talking about here can simply be done already from the corporate phone directory on the handset? It can already display the BLF status from there? You do need to enable the Enterprise parameter for this, and also the subscribe Calling Search Space.

Hi Barry.

We are in a hospitality environment and only Staff is defined on the Corporate directory, not rooms.

I have never seen BLF status from corporate directory.. Does it work similar to Expansion modules?

Also, supposing we add all guests as end users (corporate directory), the client does not wish that the guests be added to his corporate directory, reserving that only for Staff.

Hi Sadaseeven

BLF from corporate directory has been in CUCM since version 6.x. Each end user contained in the CUCM directory displays an icon showing their status (on hook, off hook etc). However if your client doesn't want to add these users / extensions to the corporate directory, this isn't going to help you. No end user in the corporate directory, no presence status.

It would technically be possible for you to write your own application (in ASP or something similar). This could utilise something like SOAP to retrieve the extension information / status from CUCM. Not for the faint hearted though!
