Call Manager Express Licensing

Hi Team,

Happy New Year wishes to all. Yesterday I was with one customer. He has one Call Manager Express. He want me to show the license in the CME. They have bought license for 2 IP Phones. I told him that the licenses are inbuilt and could not be shown, but he was very specific on that. He said as they have spent money on the license, they want to see license on the CME. I tried whatever I could but still the customer was not satisfied. What is the way that I can handle him? Atleast I need to show them the product code on the CME. As far my knowledge is concern it is not possible. But we have to do the customer satisfaction. Kindly give me an idea so that I can make him happy with the cisco product. Thanks in advance.

Hello,

the licence for the phone is only one paper and it allows the customer to use the features of CME and the phone. You can't install any "licence-key" for a phone on CME. The maximum of phone that you can use on the CME is restricted by the platform:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/requirements/guide/cme80spc.htm

With the new G2 Routers you must install the licence for your IOS. Here is a nice whitepaper:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/prod/collateral/routers/ps10616/white_paper_c11_556985.html

Kind regards,

Hi Fawas,

Marcel is most correct here (+5"M")

The CME IP Phone licensing is "honor based" and is not loaded on the router itself

Here is a clip that speaks to this question;

Prerequisites for Configuring Cisco Unified CME

Base Cisco Unified CME feature license and phone user licenses that entitle you to use Cisco Unified CME are **purchased.

From this CME doc;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/admin/configuration/guide/cmeover.html#wp2286954

Even with the newest ISR-G2 CME licensing scheme, Phone Licenses are Paper based RTU licenses (Right to Use).
Right to Use Feature licenses are not enforced.

There is nothing "on-box" to show the customer, you should have received Paper

RTU licenses that you can show him

Cheers!

Rob

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your reply. We didnt receive any paper RTU license along with the router. I may need to talk with the customer and let me hope he will understand what I am gonna explain him. Thanks again Rob..
