call manager internal extension for security and first aid

Good Evening

We have a CUCM 11 (System version: 11.0.1.20000-2).

We are looking for a "non geographical" internal extension for security and first aid: our university is spread over several buildings, each of which can be idientified by the "devicepool" field. Can we use this field to relate to different hunt groups thus obtaining that, dialing the same extension, different people can be advised depending on the location?

For example, let's say that alert extension is 1000, and there are three hunt groups, 2001, 2002, 2003:

  • Device pool A – calling 1000 switches to hunt  group 2001, extensions 100+101+102;
  • Device pool B – calling 1000 switches to hunt  group 2002, extensions 103+104+105;
  • Device pool C – calling 1000 switches to hunt  group 2003, extensions 106+107+108.

No, device pool could only be used if using local route groups, not for internal routing, you would need to adjust your CSS and partitions to make that work.

Thanks jaime, could you explain in which way please? Could you make an example?

CSS and partitions are basic building blocks in CUCM, if you're working with CUCM, you should understand how they work.

Thanks Jaime,

i am new in CUCM. For this reason i have asked a suggestion. Thanks

What Jaime is saying, is that devicepool are (geographical or not) groupings of phones that share certain properties.  The properties that are grouped in these device pools does NOT contain a common CSS for a device pool.

You are better off, engineering it around device mobility, where the IP address of the phone dictates the devices CSS. and then you have various CSS's depending on building (provided each building can be identified with its own subnet), these CSS all contain their own partitions with a unique emergency number for that building.

Just a thought,
