CallManager 8.0(3a) I disabled the DNS Client during install, I want to add some SIP Trunks (CVP) that use DNS SRV, can I edit the hosts file to add my CVP servers?
Or do I need to turn the DNS client back on (can’t recall what the CLI entry), add the DNS entries to the corporate DNS servers, etc?

Hi Jason,
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/srnd/8x/trunks.html#wp1126266 and Figure 14-9 indicate that the CUCM servers need to interact with a DNS server to get calls through SIP trunk working, when SRV record is used.
Adding DNS entries can be done using 'set network dns'
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/cli_ref/8_0_2/cli_ref_802.html#wp39980
You can add a domain name using 'set network domain'
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/cli_ref/8_0_2/cli_ref_802.html#wp40005

Make sure that you reboot the cluster, after setting the domain name on all servers, wait for a couple of hours, and run a new Database Status Report to ensure that replication is working fine.

Sriram is correct, you have to use DNS and answer to, can you edit the host file is no you cannot on the CUCM appliance version (meaning not on windows, 5.x+).
