Can 7961G-GE boot up on 4506 10/100 switch module?

Hi,

I have a 4506 with a module with 10/100 ports, WS-X4148-RJ45V. And when I plug in an 7961G-GE, there is no power. If I use an Power cube, the phone will come up and will register successfully.

If I connect a 7961G (without GE), the phone can power up with the POE and register.

Is this a bug or something?

Hi Eugene,

This is not a bug; those models of IP phones have different power requirements. Please see the data sheets below for each phones' power requirements.

In summary, 7961G requires Pre-standard PoE or IEEE 802.3af PoE. But, 7961G-GE supports IEEE 802.3af PoE only!
