Changing Display Name in CISCO CME IP Phones

I tried changing the Phone Display name by Changing the Description in the Voice Register Pool and reset the phone, but the display name remains same. Any Idea why? I also want to add 2-3 more CISCO Phones?

below commands are enough for adding a new extension or am I missing anything?

Router> enable

Router# configure terminal

Router (config)# voice register global

Voice register dn 1

Number 501

Name Test

No-reg

Voice register pool 1

Id mac xxxx.xxxx.xxxx

Description Test

Number 1 dn 1

Type 7841

You need to do that under voice register dn

Example 

voice register dn 15

name testuser

Then go to voice register global

create profile 

and restart the phone.

Description is different thing.

Thanks for the detailed reply. Just to confirm, is it safe to apply the create profile command on a live environment? will it affect any other configuration?

Ok. Thanks. I did change the voice dn name also, but didn't Run Create Profile, in fact I am bit scared to give this command. Is safe to run this on working environment, will it affect the live phones?

It should be safe to run that command.

That won’t effect your working environment.After issuing the command restart the phone.
Do restart  from voice registrar pool. Or From phone manually remove the network cable and plug it back.

Thanks. Just one more thing, I must apply the CREATE PROFILE after adding new extensions, right?

After making changes or adding new  things you need to  do create profile. Changes means adding new extension, modifying  extension, changing names, changing label etc..
