Cisco 7960 IP Phone not registering with CME: Uploaded firmware correctly.

Anupam Singh
Level 1
Level 1

Hi

CIsco 7960 IP Phone was upgraded firmware from sccp to sip.  It has taken firmware correctly but not registering with CME on the local router. I configured Voice register global, voice register dn, voice register pool.  All phones are taking extention numbers configured 5000, 5001, 5002. But not registering with CME so that I can make internal calls each other. when I reload CME router, phones are not reloading itself. All phones have taken IP from DHCP pool and even extensions but not registered.

Please suggest me configuration to register phones with CME. Do I need to register it to sip registrar server to make call on other extendions on the same LAN?

Apart from the 7960/7940 being horrible SIP phones, you could try to debug SIP and see what is happening:

debug ccsip messages

Do the phone's try to register?

What is the response from the CME?

JH

Hi JH,

following output are shown in debug: Its not even tries to register.

edoqCME#debug ccsip all
This may severely impact system performance. Continue? [confirm]
All SIP Call tracing is enabled

Just a suggestion:

try binding control and source interface of sip to whatever you have configured for voice register global

Voice service voip

sip

bind all <source interface>

and add option 150 in Data VLan also.

by the what do you see in status message on the phone.

on the phone it will be under

setting-->status-->status messages

you can also do "debug voice register events" and "debug voice register errors" to capture the registration process. (dont forget to do term mon)

Chintan

looks like your phone is not able to parse SIP config file and that is why it not able to find CME.

are you runnig mix of both SCCP and SIP phones or only SIP phones?

if you are running only SIP phones, you can Try below.

i see "OS79XX.TXT is not created" in your configuration, to solve this

create OS79XX.txt file, and put it on tftp server.

the OS79XX contents should be single line, that is phone firmware.

create a text file:

put content as firmware that phone shoud use, in your case it will be

P0S3-07-5-00

save file as OS79XX.txt

put the saved file on any tftp server.

copy the file into routers flash

"copy tftp flash" and then give tftp server address and file name.

after succesfully fetching the file in your flash, make it avalable for CME s tftp server

(config)#tftp-server flash:OS79XX.txt

after that, issue comand create profile, and upgrade in Voice register global

#create profile

#upgrade

after all this if you issue "sh voice register global", you should see OS79XX.txt Created.

once all this done, do hard reset of IP phone and see if it is registering or not.

Chintan

regards,

Chintan

Hi

The following steps are taken when phone boots up

1. Configuring vlan

2. Configuring IP

3. TFTP P0S3-07-5-00.loads

4. Configuring vlan (again)

5. Configuring IP (again)

6. Requsting Configuration

7. Get extention number  (done)

Find attachment for few status on phone.

Its not registering with that is why there is no message from CME.

I appreciate your efforts. I think that I sould start configuring CME router to register with SIP registrar server. Once I configure SIP channels ( username and password authentication) it may start working.

Please find output below:
