Hi All,

I am trying to use two Cisco 8831 phones in linked mode (Daisy chain). One primary phone is configured in CUCM and showing registered.

Connected secondary base with primary phone via daisy chain cable.

When cable is plugged into the secondary base, LED on base blink initially but then nothing happen.

Now i am able to use primary phone but secondary base is not working, phone information showing LINK MODE : CONFIGURING  .

Please help if secondary base required addition configuration or settings. Right Now primary unit is connected via POE, do you need Power adaptor or POE is fine ?

Hi there,

Yes, the primary base unit must be connected using the power adapter not PoE as shown in the excerpt below;

"When using a Sound Base in Linked Mode, the primary base unit must be connected using the CP-PWR-CUBE-3 external power supply."

From;

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/8831/10_3_1/english/AdminGuide/CS38_BK_AD57597A_00_adminguide-8831/CS38_BK_AD57597A_00_adminguide-8831_chapter_0101.html#CS38_TP_C62BE713_00

Cheers!

Rob

According to the documentation linked here:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/collaboration-endpoints/unified-ip-conference-phone-8831/200888-Configure-CP-8831G-IP-Phone-in-Daisy-Cha.html

It tells to ensure that the PoE on the interface for the IP Phone is disabled and use the Powercube. What happens if the port will remain configured with PoE on and the Powercube 3 is inserted? Will the PoE interfere so that the unit won´t get the external power drawn in?

Thanks.

Hello,

Did you solve the above? I face exactly the same problem, while I am using a Power Injector AIR-PWRINJ5=

The second phone has power  but shows up Ethernet Disconnected. Both phones show Linked Mode Configuring....

Actually Rob is once more right. In my case is fully a matter of the Power Injector.

By the time I have replace it everything works like a charm

thanks,

George
