Cisco 8831 not registering

Hi,

We have a Cisco 8831 running on sip8831.10-3-1SR3-5 firmware. After unpluging LAN connection (phone is powered via PoE) and rebooting, it will not register to CUCM anymore. We need to reset security setting again for the IP phone to register again to CUCM.

CUCM is 11.5.1.13902-2 with latest device pack 11.5.1.14604-1

Has anyone experience this and what was your fix? or is this a known bug?

Ryan

Two years later - thank you for this - just saved me some hassle.

Awesome! My one and only Cisco post.

Hey Pat!!  I think this is exactly what I am seeing on our cluster right now with our 8831's.  They have not been registering right since we installed those Certs back in June.  Had the same deal with 78XX and 88xx endpoints not able to get thier ringtones/wallpaper, ended up jumping into CLI and removing the sgn files so they could be replicated.

With our issue, do you think we can just remove that sgn, or do we have to run that patch file as well?  We're 11.5SU6, upgrading to 12.5 in December.

CUCM System version: 11.5.1.12900-21

Phone firmware Version sip8831.10-3-1SR3-5-NA

Model Number CP-8831

I had this same issue on our 8831 conference phones. After loss of POE the 8831 would not register until the security settings were reset using the keypad. Removing the g3-tones.xml.sgn file and restarting the TFTP server seems to have worked for us.

Do we know what other devices use g3-tones.xml.sgn file? We are seeing the same issue, we have CUCM 11.5.1SU3 and current firmware on the 8831 is sip8831.10-3-1SR4-2-NA.

Somewhat similar issue with our site, except our phones won't register even after deleting security.  System version: 11.5.1.14900-11  phone image is sip8831.10-3-1SR4b-1-NA.  Also tried using SR5.

Packet capture shows the last phone-CUCM traffic was trying to get the g3-tones file.  CUCM doesn't show an IP or any kind of registration status (none) even though the phone does have an IP.

Are there any ramifications to deleting this g3-tones.xml.sgn file without applying the patch?  I have a CUCM version which should have the patch applied already.
