Cisco 8845 phones deployment over the WAN

Suchi

HI,

I have CUCM 10.5.2 cluster & need to deploy new Cisco 8845 phones (50 handsets) in a branch site. What is the impact , if i deploy phones over the WAN , phones will get config/firmware? will it impact heavily on WAN link (4M link)?

Do i need to configure all phones at HQ & register  with UCM prior to ship to branch ( to minimize the WAN utilization)?

Please advise .

Hi Suchi,

In that case, 50 phones registering over wan wont be an issue. You could directly connect it on the branch sites. If the firmware on those phones need to be upgraded, then you could also use the below procedure if you are worried about consuming wan bandwidth.

Hi Such,

For bandwidth requirements see below, search for "Bandwidth Allocation Guidelines" in below link

Qes => Do i need to configure all phones at HQ & register  with UCM prior to ship to branch ( to minimize the WAN utilization)?

Ans) Simple answer to that question is as long as there is ip connectivity between CUCM and I phone you dont have to configure them locally. Example if you have VPN tunnel between site that allows the required protocol \ ports the phone would register just fine.

For port usage see below.

Is the CUCM configured with a public IP ?

I guess not. You need something like anyconnect VPN or expressway servers to connect and register with CUCM on the main site.

Hi Rajan,

This WAN link is 4M MPLS connection & phones have direct connectivity to UCM
