Cisco 8861 3PCC - Web gui Admin Setting Problem

Appleboss

Good day,

I recently bought an CP-8861 3PCC phone.
it seems it has been connected to cucum and is running an old 10- MPP firmware.
when powering up via Poe it’s not asking for an activation but only starts and does not connect. Even a factory reset doesn’t change anything and it’s not asking for the activation key Either. I also cannot access the web gui and there are no admin settings in the setting menu. Star star pound is also not enabling anything. It seems the phone is blocked for web gui access and admin. Updating the forme Ware with an tftp and an 88XX ha not been successful. It always says there is a file missing.
does anyone has an info or xml file I need for the 8861. the problem is also I can’t change the tftp server on the phone as I can’t access the admin menu. When connecting the phone it tries to pull a 8861-3PCC.xml not the default.xml

It will be something like:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<flat-profile>
<Upgrade_Rule ua="na">http://serveraddress/file.loads</Upgrade_Rule>
</flat-profile>

Hi there. 10- firmware is very old and its likely that your browser can't even  get to it. You might need an old version of Internet explorer in order to access it.

Your best bet is to upgrade the phone to latest  using action URL: http://PhoneIPADDRESS/admin/upgrade?file.loads

Bear in mind that, coming from 10.X you'll need to go to 11.0 first before jumping to 11.7 or 12.

Thanks

Hi Geovani,

thank you for you quick reply.
I tried old Firefox browser from 2007 and it also did not work. I am always seeing the white screen with idle symbol.

i need to try to upgrade first on 11-version. That’s what I didn’t do so far. Do you have an working xml file? Is the default xml the only One or do I need other xml files?

do you know why the phone is pulling a 8861-MPP.xml and not an default.xml?

i can’t send the firmware via tftp as I can’t change the tftp on the phone and need to rely on that what the phone is pulling, when connecting it.
where do I need to type the url string you posted? Just into the browser, even if I can’t access the gui?

thanks

MPP, unlike enterprise phones will send a request as 8861-mpp.xml. This is the default

What you can do, is to setup an xml file called 8861-MPP.xml which contains an upgrade rule: http://serveraddress/filename.loads and upgrade the phone that way or simply use the action URL (using your browser)
something like http://phoneIP/admin/upgrade?http://server/files.loads - you can also use a tftp server if you want.

 "I am always seeing the white screen with idle symbol. " - its a browser issue. if you try and  use an old version of Internet explorer it will work.

That’s great thank you. I’ll try that.
Can you attach the xml file, where I just change the file name of the loads file and ip address of the phone?
That would be great as I don’t know what exactly the xml content in details needs to be.

thank you so much for your help

Thank you!

it’s finally running. I was able to access it with the windows 11 possibility to use IE. What’s only mysterious that I am still not able to access the web gui with the latest 12. firmware. With an 8841 it’s working with chrome and edge and Firefox but here only the old IE despite the latest firmware.
thanks a lot for your help

hmm thats weird, with 12.0 you should be able to access it with any modern browser. Clear the cache, open incognito, see if it makes a difference.
