Cisco IP 7941 Phone do not reply busy when a call already is in progress on the phone.

Hi,

In our "Cisco Unified CM Administration System version: 7.0.1.11000-2" installation, I have a CISCO IP Phone 7940 series with the number 1595.

In the "Multiple Call/Call Waiting Settings on Device SEP0014691B5534", I have configured the phone with:

Maximum Number of Calls: 2

Busy Trigger: 2

What I would like to archive is that I would like to see in the display if another user is calling me (even if I already have a call in progress), but if I already have a call in progress, I would like to have the second call to sound as busy when they call me.

Is this possible to configure, or have I misunderstood something what can and cannot be done?

Kind regards,

Carl-Marius

Hi Carl-Marius,

Many people have enquired about this over the years

Sadly, (but understandably) this is an either/or situation. If you

want to be able to handle multiple incoming calls, then you need to set

the Busy trigger @ 2 (like you have done). If you want the second caller

to know that the person is already on an active call you usually set the Busy Trigger

@ 1 and indicate via your "on the phone" greeting that is available in most

current Voicemail systems.

You can't have it both ways here

Cheers!

Rob

Ps: if you are going to set the Busy trigger @ 2 you should bump

up the Max Calls to 4 to handle Transfers etc.

You may set busy trigger to one.  Then the 2nd call will get a busy.  But you won't see the 2nd call coming in.  Because the phone will only display the 2nd call when it's in "Ring-In-Progress" state.

Hi Michael and Rob,

Thank you both for your quick answer! I tried a lot of combinations but could not seem to get the right one...

Now I know it was because it simply can not be done.

Thank you very much - Both! I really appreciate it!

Kind regards,

Carl-Marius
