Cisco IP Communicator disconnecting issue after undocking.

Hello,

We are using the Cisco softphone here in our company and uses a laptop. The problem is every time we undock our laptop to our docking station the Cisco phone goes to registering status and won't register until we exit/close the application and re-launch it again. Basically, it is moving from Wired connection to Wireless connection.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening or suggestion of what are the setup we need to do?

You can't overcome this problem with IPC. When IPC starts up it selects the
primary interface for communication. When that interface goes down or
disconnected, IPC won't select the next interface. You need to restart to
select the new interface.

Try testing by creating a loopback Ethernet in windows and use it as your
CIPC interface and see if fixes the problem. From Cisco configuration
nothing can be done.

Any reason why not moving to Jabber.

Thanks for your response Mohammed.

Never used Jabber before and I am not sure if do we need to purchase any license for this. If  you can guide me quickly I would really appreciate it.

Depending on what license you have. If you use enhanced lic then each lic
will support one deskphone and one softphone, i.e no need for additional
license.

However, once people start using it they will be demanding more features
such as video, vpn-less, jabber on mobile and jabber on windows/mac.
Eventually the demand will increase and at some of time you will need more
lic

Hi,
Think only with jabber now...

Are you using CME or CUCM?

Thanks everyone for you inputs. It seems that there is no other way of preventing the disconnecting issue of IPC when undocking the laptop. And I don't this Jabber is also an option for us since we are only using CUCM 9.1.2 and we don't have IM&P server. Addition to this I don't think our license allows us to use Jabber.

Anyway really appreciate your comments.

Note that you can use Jabber in "phone mode only". You will not need IM&P for this type of deployment.

This is really good to know. Is there any guide on the net you can share with me? I've tried researching but all I can see is the setup with IM includes on it.

there has been some posting on the phone mode only topic, check this out,

also contains a link on what cop files to add, depending on your cucm version.

get cracking with that

Hi @Soulmaker,

little explication about Cisco Jabber "phone only" on CME.

I also tested it two weeks ago. It was succesfull.

The Jabber for Windows is integrated with CME (at least CME 10.0)

On voice register global you need to type the command:

phone-mode phone-only

Otherwise it won’t work. This will allow the jabber client to function as a regular SIP phone.

Next for the dn and the pool:

[.......]

voice register dn  3
 number 29703
 name JABBER
 label JABBER
[.......]
voice register pool  3
 id device-id-name JABBER
 type Jabber-CSF-Client
 number 1 dn 3
 username jabber password ciscojabber
[.......]

Then, under config-t, enter these two commands:

ip http secure-server
ip http secure-port 8443

It's finish for your CME. Don't forget to create profile for the SEP file of your jabber.

Then, you need to install Cisco Jabber on your client.

And what I had to do two last week ago, it was tonuse the version Cisco Jabber 9.X (9.2 for me).

With other version (greater than 9.X) it was impossible to register my jabber on the CME.

After the installation, configure the "Connection Settings":

TFTP server: IP @ of your tftp server

CCMCIP server: IP @ of your CME

To log on, use the username/password configured on your voice register pool. In this example I'm gonna use:

Username: jabber

Password: ciscojabber

Good luck.

Best Regards,

If this Helps, please rate.
