Cisco Phone 8941 getting error message Phone not registered

Hello everyone,

I am getting Phone not Registered when I am adding a new Cisco phone we bought.

Please see the new phone details:

Cisco phone REV A0

Prod #CP-8941-K9

I already have Cisco 8941 in use and works fine without any problem. All the phones are added manually.

The version for call Manager is attached.

Can someone please let me know where I should start looking?

Thanks

Tazio

What if you update the firmware on the new phones, do they register then?

Yes that's Correct upgrade steps.

You need to refer 9.3 firmware readme file too.

Make sure the MAC is correct in CUCM, then start with the basics, connectivity, DNS, routing, DHCP, TFTP; etc.

if this helps, please rate

Hi Jaime,
MAC address had been verified. There should be no problem with connectivity, DNS, routing, DHCP, TFTP as it is only the last batch of Cisco phone 8941 is not working. If I take an old Cisco 8941 and delete it and later try to add it , it works fine.

Can you do reset from the phone and try.

Check the firmware version of new and old.

Hi Nithin,

I have already tried the reset but it did not help.

The Firmware for the old phone is sccp 9-4-2sr2-2

The Firmware for the new phone is sccp 9-1-2-00

Thank you very much for your help.

Is the phone even getting a valid IP address?

your issue is due the firmware.

Release 9.4(2)SR3 can only be upgraded from 9.3(4) and later. Releases prior to 9.3(4) have to be upgraded to 9.3(4) first.

so your new phones should be upgraded to 9.3(4) first.

load 9.3(4) on CUCM make it default firmware and connect the phones, let the phone takes the new files then  upgrade it to 9.4.

please read the readme file of 9.3 firmware.

Instead of making the interim version the default I would recommend to set the load value on the individual phones for the new once when they are created in CM. This would remove the risk of other, for example old phones, downgrading to the interim set default value.

Yes @Roger Kallberg  that's the best option instead of default..

Thank you all for your reply.

Now I need to digest and understand what I will need to do and then plan how I will proceed.

What I understood is that I will need to do 2 firmware upgrades on the new phones.

First I will need to upgrade firmware to 9.3(4) and then another upgrade to 9.4(2)SR3 .

is this the correct link for Firmware upgrade?

Dear All,

I have been quarantine at home for 14 days. I am working from home but there is no access to phone. So I will have to revisit this discussion in couple of days.

Thank you all for your reply and support.
