Cisco unity4.x migration to CUC 8.X

Dear Friends,

Our customer is planning to upgrade/migrate Cisco unity 4.2 version to latest cisco unity connection 8.6 version.

which tool will be perfect for this migration COBARS OR cisco unity connection migrate utilities?

Our customer needs only users, call handlers to be migrated  no voice messages needed.

Also customer is providing new servers for CUC 8.X , so Hot Mode or Briefcase mode which should be prefered?

Customer want same voicemail number as before.

So can you explain best procedure for this migration?

They have CUCM Version  8.X two cluster  one in india and other in US ,both this cluster is going to use same CUC in HA which will be in indian site, so any  challenges in this like Codec, bandwidth , transcoder requirement if using G729 in WAN and CUC using G711 Codec.

Please share any Link for more details on this.

If any one has done this before please share the issues you had faced,  best practice , prerequisite that need to taken care.

Please share the document links which gives clear picture of this migration procces in both method

1.COBRAS

2. cisco unity connection migrate utilities

Please help me

Thanks in advance

Regards

Vigeesh Kalathil

Use COBRAS Briefcase mode.

You'll need to decide whether to integrate CXN with only the India CUCM cluster and rely on the Inter-Cluster Trunk to carry voicemail calls and MWI requests; or, to perform two separate integrations. The former has the advantage of allowing CUCM to enforce CAC while the potential disadvantage of additional configuration to ensure CUCM routes calls and MWI requests to the other cluster when appropriate.

Hi Vigeesh,

I agree with Mr. Jonathan .After reading the DOCS, BriefCase mode is the most preferred mode for migrating unity 4.2 to Connection  8.x

In hot mode, unity version 7.x is min. version or later .

In Briefcase mode, u can simply take backup from source server and restore it onto target server.
