Cisco VG202 (SCCP) Fax Problem with CUCM 8.0(2) and CUBE/Sip Trunk

Hi Rafael,

We also have similar setup, where I have a FAX connected on VG202 over SCCP with CUCM 7. And CUCM routes the call to Sip CUBE Gateway. Which is not working. Could you pls guide us how to solve this problem.

Regards

SKR

Hello skr,

i'm sorry but in our constellation we did not use a cube. we wanted to do that but it was to expensive. we do not have a sip provider in the internet, the provider is in our mpls solution included so there is no need of a cube.

and so we opened a case to get the problem solved, but i have no solution until now...

SKR,

I branched your post into a new thread since you've got a different topology and it's hence a different issue.

SCCP endpoints can only switchover via NSEs.  This is Cisco proprietary, and the CUBE ITSP isn't going to be able to recognize that switchover type.  the ITSP wants to see a protocol-based switchover (SIP Re-INVITE).

The short answer, as a result of this, is that you can't interoperate a SCCP controlled fax endpoint with a third party SIP provider.

You will need to either:

* Convert the VG202 to MGCP and configure CA-controlled T.38 (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/voice/fax/configuration/guide/vf_cfg_t38_fxrly_ps6441_TSD_Products_Configuration_Guide_Chapter.html#wp1141618).  Using SIP or H323 would also work, but that will move the local dialplan for the device to the VG202 instead of CM.

* Force calls from the VG202 through the provider up to only do g711 for all calls from the start of the call, so that no switchover/upspeed is necessary for the fax.  Note that you'd need to force a speed of 14.4 or lower at the fax machine off the VG202 for this to work consistently, since fax passthrough can't handle high speed fax.
