Greetings Tech!
I have a question dealing with VoIP Phone & Call Manager Licensing.
I was doing some research about my new shiny 8941 VoIP phones and came across an interesting article.
The article is from 2011 and deals with the 79XX series, but recent enough to be concerned.
It basically explains that some vendors may sell the primary phones, then sell the spare phones as new to someone else.
Article: http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/index.php?page_id=3134&comments_page=1
For Instance,
A vendor may sell you a Primary phone with a Licensed Serial
CP-7902-G-CH1
Then a Spare Phone would accompany the Primary Phone with the serial
CP-7902=
The article explains that unethical vendors will sell the Primary Phone, then sell the Spare Phone to another client.
Does Cisco still use this naming convention when dealing with serials on VoIP phones?
My VoIP 8941 Phones all have the serial
CP-8941-K9=
Are my phones Primary with this serial?

Hi Christopher,
Just to add a note to the good tips from Aman & Anas, the licensing
model(s) for Cisco CUCM & CME have changed a great deal since
the related 7902 license info was relevant so you don't have to worry
The 8941's are not even offered in that way;

Cheers!

Hi Christopher,
CP-8941-K9= is the part code for Cisco 8941 IP phone.
To avoid any illegal purchase, u can ask your Supplier to provide the Warranty Details from Cisco which consists of serial numbers purchased/Sales Order number/EXACT Models/Contract Number.
regds,

Hi,
also try to purchase from recognized cisco partners, mainly the golden partners. they have direct purchase from cisco and restrict policy.
