CME 8.6 9951 IP Phone registration issue

Hi All

Hi team, i have an issue with registration of 9951 IP Phone on CME 8.6. My IP Phone is currently registered with Call Manager 8.0 running forware version 9.0.3. Now i am trying to register the same phone with CME 8.6. I have done all the necessary configurations and when the phone goes through the registration process i have also observed the debug tftp events. i noticed that .sgn file was being downloaded and hence i did a Reset all settings. Even after doing this the phones starts downloading the firmware and the it shows upgrade failed. In the status i also cannot update locale file. the firmware version was 9.1.1SR1. Then i removed this forware and put the same firware as in the CALL MANAGER i.e) 9.0.3. Again after the above explained process it shows upgrade failed. In status it shows Language United states not found. The Phone simply does not register !!!

I configured an CIPC via telephony service and it worked instantly. Can anyone suggest to me what is the issue ? some have suggested deleting the trust files will work. I havent tested this. Any help will be really grateful.

Hi Looking at the debug ccsip messages I see the ff:

Jul 11 09:58:25.475: //60/CA78ACBF8029/SIP/Error/ccsip_spi_register_incoming_registration: Registration Authorization failed with authorization header=

Jul 11 09:58:25.475: //60/CA78ACBF8029/SIP/Info/ccsip_spi_registration_failed: Sending Challenge 401/407 response

Jul 11 09:58:25.475: //60/CA78ACBF8029/SIP/Info/ccsip_spi_registration_failed:  Sending Register Response 401

Can you try and remove this two commands.. from voice register global.

authenticate register

authenticate realm

Dont forget to create cnf file once you remove them.

From the registration request sent to ccme..There is no username and password configured on the phone. So you have requested authentication with no credentials.

The digest username is empty. SO either remove the authenticate register or configure your phones to authenticate with a username and password

Have you tried to factory reset the phone and then trying to attach it to CME?  If not, then I would suggest you try to factory default the phone and see if that gets it connected....

I did a reset all from the Administration button on the 9951 IP Phone. It then downloads the cnf file ( I can see it through the debug tftp events) but the Firware doesnt get upgraded and thus does not register. If i put the same firmware on the phone in the CME, it is still the same process.

Hi can you send a "debug tftp events". Lets have a look at what the phone is doing when it attempts to download its firmware

i will upload it tomorrow. i will have a 9971 IP Phone tomorrow to test with.

hi i have attached the debug tftp events as well as bedug ccsip all as requested. I beleive it is not able to find the Locale file and it gives the error File Not Found: United_states/g4-tones.xml

Do help me with this regard

The US language file is not necessary for the phone to work, and failure to download it doesn't interrupt the registration.

However, the 99xx phones are SIP phones and as such are configure diffretnly than e.g a CIPC. For the same reason, thye will also have many limitations:

That was absolutely correct !!!

I removed the authentication register and it worked. So if i am to put a username and password for te phone then the authenticate register has to be put back rite ?

Anywz thankyou very much for the same.

Yes. It is a good idea to request authentication using the "authenticate register" This is best practice and it prevents toll fraud and unknown devices registering to tour system. But you need to have username and password on any phone you want to register

e.g.

voice register global

mode cme

source-address x.x.x.x port 5060

authenticate register

authneticate realm all

You will then need to configure each phone with a username and password as follows:

voice register pool 1
id mac x.x.x.x..xx.x..x

type 9951

number 1 dn 1

username cisco password cisco

! --- configure username and password for SIP registration
