Cost effective FXO device?

Hello everyone,

I need to be able to put a single FXO port in a few buildings on a campus to interface to analog paging systems. Is there a cost effective device to do this without buying a IOS ISR at each building to put a FXO VIC into? (An FXO version of the ATA would be great!) I'm running CUCM 7.1 and have 7962s in all the buildings on campus, by the way.

I've seen Cisco's small business SPA8800, but from what little there is on this forum, it seems that's not supported.

Thank you in advance for your help!

I may be mistaken but I am pretty sure that the VG202 and 204 are FXS only.

It's not as cost-effective as an ATA, but Cisco does sell the VG200 series devices that can do this.  I think the smallest version is a 2-port model (VG202).  They're IOS-based, so you should be able to configure them whichever way you need.  It's at least more cost-effective than buying an ISR with an FXO card.

I may be mistaken but I am pretty sure that the VG202 and 204 are FXS only.

You could be right (I can't view that link, forbidden), sorry about that.  I'm having the same lack of luck in finding something reasonable for the use case.  I'm assuming that you don't have spare copper connecting the other sites to somewhere central that you could plop a VIC into.

To see 'forbiddenì links, remove '/partner' from URL.

Looks like those are fixed form factor FXS boxes, are they not EoS?

Paul, you are correct, the buildings are fiber-fed, no copper. I did find, after further research, that I should be able to use a ATA with this install. I've found on these forums some people that have had good luck with the Valcom V-9970 to interface FXS with thier paging controllers. Most of our existing installations use Valcom anyway, so I'm hopeful this will be successful. Now I just need to find out how to enable battery reversal on the ATA for disconnect.

Thank you everyone for the input!

I've used this one before. It's a slightly different approach but it functions perfectly

It can act like a sip phone.

Does it suit the needs? And it's cheap!

Erik

Hi Etamminga!

How were you able to get the Barix unit to register as a SIP phone in Call Manager? I keep getting rejected. I have been messing around for a few days with no luck! We have other SIP phones registered with no issue.

We are running CUCM 8.6, and I have the latest SIP client FW.

Thanks!

Jeff

Hi,

I didn't have much difficulty with it.

It is located at one of our customers so I cannot check for you what I configured. But it couldn't be more than just configuring an end-user with digest-credentials, assigning the user to the phone and configuring the dn/digest/sip-proxy on the barix unit.

What are you seeing in the SIP logging?

Regards,

Erik Tamminga

I have other 3rd party SIP devices working without issue, I just have not been able to get the Barix unit working. We are running LDAP sync, so I have verified the username/password of the service account in AD, set the digest password on the user, assigned the SIP security profile (with digest), etc. Still no go...

At least having conformation that digest authentication is used is a big help! Do you remember if you used the extension or username as the user on the Barix?
