dear

im trying to create dial-peer voice pots but its shown an error: could not add peer as per attached pic

The "ERROR: could not add peer" error message is displayed on the IOS voice gateway when an attempt is made to add a dial peer to an existing dial-peer configuration

how can i deal with memory is there is any way to fix for adding new dial peer?

That would depend on your environment and how "busy" your router is. Also, high RAM utilization is usually seen in boxes with large routing (eg BGP) tables and if they run multiple functionalities (extra zone-based firewalls etc).

Of-course, since the 2911 has only one DRAM slot, if you can take over the extra cost of the 2GB DIMM it would be good to purchase it, since you never know how you will be using the router in the future. But, to serve as a voice gateway in a normal enterprise, the 1GB DIMM should be enough.

Can you attach the output of "show version" and "show memory summary"? If nothing weird is happening on your router the only way to free some memory up is:

- Use an IOS that requires less RAM (you will probably have to downgrade here)

- Disable unused services on the router (http/dhcp server)

- Remove unused dial-peers

Indeed you have very little free processor memory. You platform and configuration does not justify the huge memory usage.

Can you share the output of show processes memory sorted (just the first few lines). I would also suggest reboot your router and take the output of the show commands again.

Also, remove these lines from your config, it is not safe having them:

Hello Mr AMR,

This issue is related to memory and only way to resolve this is upgrade the DRAM.

Currently you are running with 512 MB RAM whereas 15.4 IOS requires 1 GB of RAM.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/requirements/guide/cme105spc.html

As a workaround reboot of the router can be used and that should allow you to add dial-peer.

so if i wanna change the ram so is it easy like desktop pc just remove the old and install the new one ?

if i upgrade the memory the configurations will be deleted or effected?

also after i reboot the router the problem fixed .. but how to avoid from happening again or when it will happen again ?

Hello AMR,

Good to know that its resolved for now.

Yes its just normal desktop RAM replacement process. Just remove the chassis cover and replace the RAM. Replacing the RAM won't affect any configuration just make sure you do save the configuration before switching off the router and also suggested to take backup.

You can't avoid this issue as its dynamic memory allocation and never know when it will happen again. Every configuration line in the router needs some memory and more number of lines in the configuration needs more memory.

There have been issues where due to less memory router was not able load the configuration after reload so make sure you don't end up in such issue.

Please upgrade the RAM asap to resolve it completely.
