CUBE Redundant License

Are the redundant CUBE licenses (FL-CUBE-xxx-RED, FL-CUBEE-xxx-RED) used only on CUBE pairs with HSRP activated?  Or, should these licenses also be used when a carrier providing SIP trunks delivers SIP traffic to geographically separate CUBEs in a primary\failover scenario where the SIP traffic would only be sent to the seconday CUBE in the event of failure to reach the primary CUBE?

CUBE Redundant License

Hello,

Below is brief information on CUBE Redundant configuration and licensing:

FL-CUBE-xxx-RED, FL-CUBEE-xxx-RED

++ The " RED " keyword means its for Redundancy feature

++ The Redundancy license applies to box-to-box redundancy in an Active/Standby deployment ( HSRP config )

============================================

Geographic redundancy: Use Single-Use CUBE License

++ If you need geographic redundancy, each box is licensed with Single-Use CUBE License

============================================

CUBE High-Availabilty using HSRP: Below is the resource link for config example:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/sw/voicesw/ps5640/products_configuration_example09186a0080b40d82.shtml#req

Hope the above is informative.

CUBE Redundant License

Hi there,

If a customer has orignally deployed CUBEs in an HSRP configuration using the -RED- licence, but then wants to move the CUBEs to separate data centre, is there an upgrade licence available to take them to the full CUBE licence for each gateway?

Many thanks,

Mike.

CUBE Redundant License

Hi Michael,

Below is the guide:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6790/gatecont/ps5640/prod_qas09186a00801da69b.html

Some detail information:

FL-CUBEE-XXX licenses apply to the Cisco 2900 and 3900 series ISR G2 routers

++ The ISR G2 routers have additional features, such as box-to-box redundancy

FL-CUBEE-XXX-RED  license enables the purchased session  count for both platforms, e.g.  the FL-CUBEE-100-RED purchased for two  Cisco 3945 routers enables a  100-session SIP trunk on both the Active  and Standby routers

- Applicable on the router that is Active at one time

++  Now if customer wants to use Active-Active that means, the  FL-CUBEE-XXX-RED is not a valid license and does require to purchase the  normal single-use session license

OR consider the below:

- CUBE #1: FL-CUBEE-100-RED *** This can be used as normal single-use session license and RED is additional on top

-  CUBE #2: NO CUBE LICENCE *** This will require normal single-use licese  and wont have the RED additional feature which is not required anyways  ***

Hope the above is informative and helpful. And please do bear in mind this is feature license and its subjective to feature

++ Once you have normal feature license, you are good to start using that feature and any additional need to be topped up !

Hello everybody,Here is one

Hello everybody,

Here is one scenario I found on the Cisco document (Please refer link below), which indicates that in 'Geographical redundancy' with load balancing we need to consider, FL-CUBEE-XXX-RED on "each" router. & not the Single-Use licenses on "each" router.

On the another note, if load balancing is not required then only you can consider Single-Use licenses.

Load balancing refers toIf a primary box fails in this scenario, the calls on it are lost. The load balancing algorithm ensures that the next call is sent to the non-failed location.

And redundancy refers to call preservation on failure of box and it is not available in the two active CUBE scenarios.

Please refer scenario below (detailed link for other scenarios: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/ios-xml/ios/voice/cube/configuration/cube-book/voi-cube-licensing.html )

Geographic Redundancy

  •

Scenario—Two active CUBEs, no redundancy, no call preservation on failure of box, but there is load balancing.

  •

Expectation—Expecting 500 sessions across each location, and in case one location fails, expecting the new 500 calls to failover to the other location.

  •

    Licensing Requirement—Two FL-CUBEE-500-RED.

  •

If a box fails in this scenario, the calls on it are lost. The load balancing algorithm ensures that the next call is sent to the non-failed location.

Also, it is important to note that, CUBE is a paper-based honor license (no file to install) that allows you to run the CUBE RTU (Right-to-Use) feature set after you have the UCK9 license installed.

Hope this helps!

Thank you,
