CUC 8.6.2 Call handler

I am trying to create a greeting that can be changed on a daily basis for a nursing department.

Basically the users want to dial an extension and reach a recording that tells them the daily updates for the nursing floor. They do not want messages left. They do however want the ability to easily change this message daily.

My question is: Is a call handler the best way to accomplish this?

I have been reading the admin guide and it discusses how to set one up but it doesn't talk about how to tweak it the way I want. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Hi Adam,

If you record the daily message as a Greeting (probably the Alternate Greeting

would be best as it overrides all others) then only it should play and not be prefaced

by "Sorry"

Cheers!

You can certainly use Call handlers and greetings administrator to change the call hander greetings. The second part of your query, I dont wuite get. Users dial in to hear the greetings and then change it?

So to be a little more clear, the Doctors would call in and listen the greeting. The end users or nurses working the floor that day would change the greeting in the morning. They would need a quick and easy way to change the greeting each day.

Hi Adam,

We have lots of these type of set-ups The only drawbacks with

using a Call Handler is that you need to be an "owner" to change

greetings and to be an "owner" you need to be a user with mailbox

on the system. The steps for changing the greeting are also a bit more

cumbersome and require the greetings admin config.

For your requirement I might prefer to use an actual mailbox with

the After-Greeting action set to Hang up or Goodbye as it will be

easier to update the message daily.

Cheers!

Good info. Follow up question though. Can I create a new user template and configure it to not play the system default messages when someone woudl dial that specific mailbox?

Meaning, I don't want the system to say "sorry" and then play the message the user recorded. I just want it to play the pre-recorded message then hang up.

I am assuming that changing the user template could accomplish this?

Thank you both. The alternate greeting was key I think. The fact that it overrides all other settings is very useful in this scenario.  This is a classic case of keeping it simple. Thanks again.
