CUCM 11.5 SIP Phone PLAR Configuration

Martin Spurrier

I was able to get the PLAR to work on the 6921, 7942, 7962, 7965 and 7975, without any problems. We have a CUCM 11.5 and starting to use the 78XX and 88XX phones. I was able to get the 8851 to work after setting up the SIP Dial Rule, but I cannot get it to work on the 7821, 7841 or the 7861. Is there a extera step I need to do for the 78XX phones?

Were you able to set this up in your lab?

Nithin Eluvathingal

I have been waiting to see what you come up with in your lab. Have you had the chance to check it out? Really looking forward to what you come up with.....Thank you for your help.

it worked with me without any issues. i assume there is some mistakes on setup.

You could be right, but I have been over it and over it again. Like I said, I was able to get the PLAR to work on the 6921, 7942, 7962, 7965, 7975 and 8851, without any problems. I am only having a problem with the 7821, 7841 and 7861 phones. I have deleted the phones and reassigned them as default added the line CSS and the SIP Dailing Rule (for whatever button) and it just gives me dial tone, it will not Hot Dial. All the other phones work fine, even the 8851. I have set the 78XX phone the same way I did for the 8851 SIP phone. The SIP Dialing Rule (for button 10) works on the 8851. I even tried button 1 on the 7821, still didn't work. You say you got a 78XX phone to work. Can you send me the config of that phone? I would like to cross check it with one of mine and see if there is something not set correctly.

I have found what the problem was. When building the SIP Dial Rules. On the Pattern Information, you DO NOT click "Add Pattern", you click "Add Plar" This was not pointed out to me. I had to find this out on my own.

Great that you're sharing this. One small comment on this, wouldn't it be somewhat obvious that you should use that button when what you're trying to achieve is a PLAR functionality? ';-)'

Not when it's in a section for "Pattern Addition" It was not pointed out in the Cisco Documentation or in online videos. Wouldn't you think if someone was having a problem with PLAR that one of you know-it-all's would have said something about it?

Thank you for your unhelpful response Roger....

I would say that since you where doing a setup for PLAR that everyone just assumed that it was obvious that you would use the button named "Add Plar".

Apart from that this Knowledge article on how to setup SIP PLAR is IMHO quite clear on that you'd use that button. Configuring PLAR/Hotline using SIP Phones on Call Manager

Also the built in help page has a clear distinction between the two, do you think that this was put in there without a reason?
