CUCM 8.6 Publisher recovery

Hi

I have CUCM/CUC/CUPS publisher install on one UCS box. Recently we identified the 3 HDD failed and now required RMA ALL 3 HDD.

Since we do not have any backup for all, whether possible we can recovery all pubs from subs (Subs are located at different data center) without backup files available?

Whether possible that we can upgrade current sub to become pub?

Hi Fei,

What u need to do is to build the publisher first and then, u require to go to DRS of Publisher and from there, u can get the option from where to restore i.e. SUBSCRIBER

you can refer the DRS admin guide

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/drs/8_6_1/drsag861.html

Restoring the First Node only (Rebuilding the Publisher Alone)

But I still suggest u open case with cisco.

Open a TAC case. It *may* be possible that they can do some magic for you.

Hi Fei,

You can recover data from Susbcriber in case if Publisher fails and do not have backup.

This feature was intoduced in CUCM 8.6.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/rel_notes/8_6_2/delta/delta862.html

New Feature for Restoring the Database of a Publisher Node

When using the Disaster Recovery System to restore the publisher node of a Cisco Unified

Communications Manager cluster, you can restore the publisher database using the database from one

of the subscriber nodes.

If the backup file that you select for the restore process includes a CCMDB database component, a

drop-down list box appears in the Restore wizard that allows you to choose the node from which to

restore database data. When you use this option, Cisco Unified Communications Manager restores the

publisher database from the database of the chosen subscriber node, and restores all nondatabase

components from the backup file that was selected during the restore process.

You can open the TAC case and take their help.

Hi Aman

That's exciting new features for 8.6(2). But the will you be able to recovery Pub from Sub without any backup files? As we DO NOT have any backup procedure create on this instance.

As the Pub is down, i have managed to access Sub DRF to create backup device and do manual backup but failed as all option under DRF page is not responding, i cannot process further at all.

I will see if would adding backup device via CLI and do manual back from through there.

Cheers

Fei

Hi Aman

Long store short, we had successful restore CUCM Pub according to doc you provided, thx a lot.

In  terms of restore CUC and CUPS, whether same procedure apply as well?  But from the research, i could not find any valuable doc.
