Hi Experts,

Does CUCM and IM&P minor versions also need to match for successful installation of servers ?

10.5.2.10000-5 CUCM
10.5.2.20000-1 IM&P

There is a mismatch in the above version , will this work ?

Thanks

Manish

According to the documentation,

"IM and Presence Service and Cisco Unified Communications Manager software versions must match"

Since IM and P is more of a "subscriber in the CUCM database", I would assume the rules of CUCM version matching holds true. So to be safe, ensure the versions match.

CUCM and IMP versions almost never match exactly, all you need to ensure is that the minor version (first 3 numbers i.e. 10.5.1) match. So, in your example you are good.

Hello,  I have Cisco call manager 10.5.2 installed on BE6000. I have  Cisco 8945 phones  configured and working properly. Due to limited phones, I want to to set up cisco jabber clients for desktop users. In  a quest for this, I found that cups is a prerequisite for jabber clients. According to documentaion on Cisco page cups version 8.6 have been shifted to IM & P server version 9.*i want to ask if this version of IM  & P  support jabber clients. If yes, how do I set it up in the IM and P?

IMP is required if instant messaging and presence is desired, you can run Jabber without IMP registered to CUCM for soft phone functionality only if that is all you need. If IMP is what you desire then you do need to deploy IMP application where the major version needs to match the major version of CUCM. So, if you are running CUCM 10.5, you need to install IMP 10.5. In fact IMP is tightly integrated to CUCM as most of the config related to IMP is nowadays done from CUCM and during the installation of IMP it needs to join the CUCM cluster.

Hi Chris, thank you for your quick response.i think I have the same version with cucm because I have telepresence also configured. What are the steps involved in setting up jabber clients in the IMP. I have tried to set it up in cucm but unsuccessful.

I suggest you read the Jabber deployment guide:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/jabber/11_5/cjab_b_cisco-jabber-documentation-guide-release.html

as well as the IMP admin guide

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/im_presence/configAdminGuide/10_5_1/CUP0_BK_CE43108E_00_config-admin-guide-imp-105.html

as there are many considerations, and steps.

That really depends, if you want phone only mode, you can do without IM&P, if you want full UC (phone and IM&P) then you do need IM&P, you need IM&P 10.5(2), and all the info you need about how to install IM&P is here:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/unified-communications/unified-communications-manager-callmanager/tsd-products-support-series-home.html

For Jabber, you'll need to read the related Jabber documentation once you have IM&P up and running.

Manish, I'm adding more links for reference to this thread

IM and Presence Service and Cisco Unified Communications Manager software versions must match.

For example, IM and Presence Service Release 10.5(2) is supported only with Cisco Unified Communications Manager Release 10.5(2). Similarly, IM and Presence Service Release 10.0(1) is supported only with Cisco Unified Communications Manager Release 10.0(1), and so on.
