in CUCM 8.6(2) is there a way to tell what types of licenses you have , pro, standard etc. Or is that not available until 9.x?

Anything prior to 9.0 was still DLU based, so there is real way to tell. You could connect user count tool to your cluster and get the user counts based on what is configured.

Thanks Chris! I am hearing that prior to 9.x you could actually use UWL standard licensing and get all of the Pro features as it is on the honor system but it is enforced in 9.x. Is that correct?

Correct, the model was the same for a while where you purchase either CUWL licenses or UCL licenses, however until version 9 it was not tracked properly in CUCM as everything was being converted to DLUs. as of 9.0 it is nicely tracked now.
CUWL Standard does not provide PRO features, PRO is PRO and Standard is Standard. If you can access partner pages refer to this CUWL ordering guide for more details:
