CUCM licensing BASIC vs. Essential

Hi all,

there is a 9.1.2 CUCM with ELM licensing server.

We got an license warning for essential licensing that I dont understand.

See the attached pictures:

license_usage_report_cucm.jpg shows the report from CUCM.

license_usage_elm_server.jpg shows the usage in ELM.

ELM generate a license warning for 1 essential license.

How the ELM calculate the license usage?

At the CUCM are 39 ATA ports configured and 39 Users that need basic licensing for e.g. Remote Destination Profiles.

But installed licenses are only 35 Basic and 33 Essential.

You have 8 Enhanced and 1 Enhanced Plus licenses more than the required number. So in total you have 9 licenses extra on top of your required licenses in both the enhanced/plus categories.

Now going to Basic and essential your installed licenses are less than requirements: You are running short of 6 essential and 4 basic licenses. So in total you are running short of 10 licenses here.

When you run short of licenses in essential/basic category it will start borrowing from upper categories, so after borrowing 9 extra available licenses (from enhanced/enhanced plus) now you are still running short of 1 license. Which is being shown in the warning.

Hopefully it should be clear.
