CUCM migration from UCS C200 to SAN based third party server

Hi all,

I am planning to migrate our UC applications from UCS c200 to a SAN based 3rd party server. Is vMotion supported from ESXi 5.0 DAS to SAN in vCenter? It is not clear at the link regarding regular vmotion for UC applications https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/uc_system/virtualization/virtualization-software-requirements.html#vmotion. However, It mentioned in the article "Moving a shut down VM during a maintenance window, i.e. a "cold migration" or "host to host migration", is not vMotion and is supported", does that mean only copying of .vmdk file to a 3rd party server is supported?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, from the link you specified it is not clear whether you can use vMotion do perform migration from DAS-to-SAN. It only mentions about SAN-to-SAN (Prior to ESXi 5.1) and DAS-to-DAS (In ESXi 5.1+ ) but nothing about DAS-to-SAN or vice versa.

You can also use Cisco Prime Collaboration Deployment (PCD) application to migrate CUCM applications from one hardware to another hardware. In this case it does not matter whether you are migrating from DAS/SAN-to-DAS/SAN. But make sure that the SAN requirements are met as per this design guide:

https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/uc_system/virtualization/virtualization-collaboration-storage-design-requirements.html
