CUCM upgrade question from 8 to 9 (first time installation)

Hi,

I have MCS servers 7835i3 and we going to install CUCM very first time. Originally we bought CUCM 8.x with the hardware but later we bought upgrade to 9.x. Now my question is should I install CUCM 8 first and then upgrade to 9 OR should I install CUCM 9 directly?

Which path is better, keeping in mind that I have licenses for CUCM 9.x

Anees.

Install 9.x directly as you've got the licenses. Why go through the extra step of upgrading from 8 to 9.

But you need to have the bootable ISO for 9.x for installation.

Hi Atul,

Thanks for the reply,

Do you have any idea where can I get the bootable ISO for 9.x. I can't find it where it should be in following link.

https://software.cisco.com/download/type.html?mdfid=284510097&flowid=77894

Anees.

Bootable ISO won't be available for download on cisco.com.

You need to order it via PUT or TAC can publish it for you.

Hi Anees,

Please do check the H/W compatibility guide for MCS server for CUCM 9

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/unified-communications/7800-series-media-convergence-servers/prod_brochure0900aecd8062a4f9.html.

As rightly said by Atul, u need to have bootable ISO for CUCM 9

Hi Atul,

Anees would be having upgrade licenses for 9 which I suppose cannot be installed.

regds,

aman

I assumed all is good from licensing side as mentioned by Anees. If they have only upgrade lic then yes that's the path to go.

Hi Aman,

Thanks for the reply;

The compatibility matrix is fine.

How can we tell whether we have the base licenses or the upgraded ones. I am attaching the snapshot of the licenses from boq.

Hi Anees,

you have licenses for version 9 for CUCM/UCXN/CCX and u had UCSS for 1 year .
