Custom extension for Messages Button on 8845 using SIP

I have used SEPmac.cnf.xml files to provision my 8845s. I have BLFs working, custom wallpaper, lineMode 1 enabled, etc. So I've got a good handle on how to use the XML structure to get the behavior I'm looking for out of these phones. I cannot, however, get the physical Messages button to dial my PBX's check messages extension: *97. I have used <messagesNumber>VOICEMAIL EXTENSION</messagesNumber> and also tried <messagesURL></messagesURL> to no avail. I also switched back to <lineMode> 0 to see if that was the issue and it was not. I get the 'Messages not available' screen on the phone's display and my PBX indicates there is no attempt to connect to the extension.

Were you able to find a solution?  I'm running into the same issue on 8861s and ran through the same t-shooting steps as you did but when the messages button is pressed it results in no network activity and shows messages not available.
