You need to elaborate on what you mean by "data migration". What system(s), what settings, what versions, etc.

Hi Chris,

Sorry about that. I mean to say Data center migration.

What UC applications are moving to new data center? Is the plan to change IP addresses of the servers and/or hostnames? If so, list your UC applications in scope for move as they each need to be handled independently and "holistically' when re-IPing, etc.

>>What UC applications are moving to new data center?
--> All the UC application CUCM,CUC,contact center and presence server.

>>Is the plan to change IP addresses of the servers and/or hostnames?
No Ip will reamin the same of the servers

As company A will be acacquired by company B

to add what are the other details I need to gather from network team . do and don't

Well, if the IP addressing staying the same, what is the plan to physically move the servers? Will you shut them down at certain time and physically move/ship them over to new data center, or is the down time not an option and the plan is to rebuild them on new hardware?

If IPs are staying the same, is the new location going to be extended via L2 so that both locations can have the same VLANs/subnets, or will the network be "migrated" at specific time?

>No

Then there is not much to do at all, as everything should continue working the same after the move. The order of events would be something like (assuming virtualized environment):

1. Gracefully shut down each virtual machine

2. Shut down the host server

3. Disconnect servers and take a note of each network connection

4. Move servers

5. Connect network connections to proper switch ports (assuming network is properly re-routed)

6. Start host servers

7. If ESXi is set for automatic VM startup (recommended) the VMs should start coming up, otherwise start each VM from ESXi console

8. Wait until each application comes up and devices register properly

9. Perform validation testing

Much Appreciate !

Thanks Chris !  U  Rock.

As I'm new to this, getting new activities one or the other to learn and explore and I wanted to make my basic strong.

What are your recommendation learning & certification along with Cisco(I mean other vendor) I should carry in VoIP.

I cannot speak for other vendors as I focus on Cisco, however to be successful in Cisco voip deployments you need to understand the following technologies on top of Cisco UC these days:

virtualization (VMware, Cisco UCS)

networking (routing and switching)

QoS

Security (PKI, firewalls, etc)

Network services such as DHCP, DNS, etc.

Thanks Chris !

Another concern

I wanted to add some numbers in Cisco soft phone personal directory.

Can you guide the steps how can I add it

User can login to self care user page and add those themselves.

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/useroptions/11_5_1/CUCM_BK_C95404CB_00_self-care-user-guide_1151.html

How can I get that feature "Unified Communications Self-Care Portal".

I'm using cisco Ip communicator.

can we add it through CUCM

as I need to add user cell phone number to my personal directory
