Dial Plan Hierarchy in CUCM

Ed Kender

Hello I'm trying to locate a document that explains what the hierarchy is for when a number is presented to CUCM?  What is does it look for first and if that is not configured what does it look for next.  Below is an example.

1. Configured DN

2. Translation pattern

3. Route Pattern

4. ETC.

I don't think you will get single document covering all these aspects in once.

I suggest you go through individual dial plan components to know what actually it does and derive the flow. If any question later on, let us know.

It all comes down to best match. If a device has access to matching patterns based on its CSS, and parition assigned to matching patterns CUCM will evaluate all the DNs/patterns and use best match. For example you have TP 22XX, and RP 2XXX the TP will be matched as it's more explicit. If you add a DN such as 2211 and someone dials 2111 all 3 would match, but the DN will be most explicit and call will be extended to it.

I suggest you read the whole dial plan chapter from the SRND to understand exactly how CUCM works in terms of call routing.
