External Calls failing to goto Voice Mail

Hi,

we are presently runnning Call Manager 4.1

We are experiencing a fault where external calls are failing to go to Voice Mail, instead callers get rings then a enganged tone.

On the Line configuration pages,

"Forward Busy External to Voice Mail" and "Forward No Answer External to Voice Mail" are both ticked.

The unusual thing if a phone is already forwarded to Voice mail, cause the person is away, then the external call is directed to Voice mail.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Sounds like an issue of " Re-Packetization ( Codec Conversion ) of a Stream " i.e. alaw to ulaw & vice-versa.

Enabling MTP should fix it.

Thank you for the suggestion GP,

But what does MTP stand for? and where do I configure it?

Thank you

Steve

Steve,

MTP stands for Media Termination point & it needs to be enabled on the trunk ( check the MTP required box ).

Btw, could you elaborate on which is the VM system used & it's version ?

Hi GP,

Thanks for helping me with this.

the VM system is Cisco Unity V4.

Do you know where I can find MTP required tick box?

Thanks again

Hi Steve,

A couple of notes to add to the great tips from Gajanan (+5 GP )

The MTP setting would be within CUCM not Unity. The other thing that is

confusing is that phones with CFWDALL set do work for external calls. Can

you try setting the actual Unity Pilot # in the two Call Forward external areas

rather than using the checkbox just as a quick test to see the results.

Cheers!

Hi Rob,

thank you for the reply, I have been clicking around CM looking at setting.

The strange thing is that if a phone is forwarded to voice mail it works or if our switchboard is night service.

But it doesn't work if the phone isn't answered, or busy.

It used to work fine and am sure nothing has changed and as you can tell from the verison numbers this is an old system.

These are the present setting

I've tried typing the line number in the Coverage number, and ticking and unticking the boxes.

Any suggestion welcome.

Hi Steve,

That is strange to be sure?

Just for further testing can you apply a CSS (calling search space) that can reach Unity

on the Forward no answer and forward busy settings.

Cheers!
