Hi,

I am using SIP trunk and have 10 DID numbers for FAX machine. I have to configure FAX with IP Telephony system, I am using ATA 186 to support fax. I just go through the Cvoice-Book, I come to know from internet, that lot of user facing problem, lots of people not sure wheather they should go for Pass-Through or Fax-Relay, or the speed. Let me know which excatly its going to work, I am using CUCM 8.6 version and a voice gateway.

Hi Waleed,

Using t.38 Relay is the bect way to go since that has become a market standard. You can configure the ATA for it from the ATA Configuration Page on the CUCM once you get the ATA registered.

Also, it should work be default on you SIP trunk. Please let me know if you run into any issues.

Regards,

Jagpreet

I don't think ATA186 supports protocol based T.38 which is the facto SIP trunk standard, you will need to either use passthrough if supported by carrier or change ATA186 to 187 or VG202, 204, 224 or FXS ports.

Chris

Waleed,

Chris is correct. ATA 186 does not support t.38. My apologies, I mistook it for 187.

Regards,

Jagpreet

Thanks Chris and Jagpreet, so I have to use passthrough ? I am using 186 as I have this only, I will get the Fax machine in an hour, let me know the configuration required for me to do in voice gateway as well as on CUCM, thank you already.

I have check the data sheet of ATA 186, it says this only

"

Fax**

• G.711 fax pass-through

• G.711 fax mode

**  Success of fax transmissions up to 14.4 kbps depends on network  conditions and fax modem/fax machine tolerance to those conditions.  Network must have reasonably low network jitter, network delay, and  packet loss rate. "
So please let me know the configuration of pass-through which I have to do on Voice gateway or in CUCM, I have check Cvoice book, it show different configuration.

. Any one have a idea about this, help would be a great if it comes from your side. Thank you.

Anyhow I solved the problem, by changing some parameters, also what I find out, I make some translation pattern without * and route that call or send fax without dialling * at the start and make some dial peer destination pattern with the same, I mean without *, it worked.
