Hi everybody.

IP phone refers to cisco ip phone in following discussion.

ipphone----f0/2---SW--f0/1---trunk-----CME (router)

                                       |

                                       |

                                      f0/3

                                      tftp server

1) When we add phone manually, does it create a file "SEPMAC-Address.cnf" on tftp server automatically?

If not, then what do we do to create this file on tftp server.?

2) If a CME router is configured for auto-registration, will this create a file "SEPDEFAULT.cnf." on tftp server automatically?

If not, then what do we do to create this file on tftp server?

===================================================================================================

Let say a ipphone is added on CME router and a file " sepxxxxxxxxx.cnf" exists on tftp server. Ip phone successfully registers.

Next we unplug this ip phone and sell it to some other company .

3)When this ip phone powers up in totally new ip telephony environment which also happens to use CME router. what will ip phone do?  will it request the same file i.e sepxxxxxxxxx.cnf or will it use hunt algorithm ?

4)Let assume a CME router is configured with auto registration and a file sepdefault.cnf exists on tftp server. A ip phone with mac 1111:1111:1111 successfully boots up and registers with CME router. will CME router create a file SEP 1111:1111:1111 on tftp server because it just adds the ip phone?

5 If we unplug and plug it back to force it to boot up again. Will ip phone request " sep 1111:1111:1111 file from tftp ?

6)Let say CME router adds a ip phone with mac:1111:1111:1111 and a file sep 1111:1111:1111 exists on the tftp server. A ip phone successfully registers with CME router. Later we make some changes such as different phone image  on CME router, will it cause the changes in sep 1111:1111:1111 file on tftp ?

thanks and have a great day

If think if you were to do "debug tftp event" with "term mon", you would fnd the best answer yourself.

Anyway, phones request sepdefault only if no answer to MAC-specific requests.
